Climate change actions not matching words say Mitchell and Riggall
Keith Mitchell, Director at Stantec, and Jonny Riggall, Director at Aether, asked awkward questions about how the government is addressing the issue of transport decarbonisation, and in particular the practicalities of the switch to electric propulsion as the primary pathway to net zero.
In particular, Mitchell drew attention to the Paris Climate Change Agreement of December 2015 which sought to ensure transparency in data when promising decarbonisation measures. “In accounting for anthropogenic emissions and removals corresponding to their nationally determined contributions, Parties shall promote environmental integrity, transparency, accuracy, completeness, comparability and consistency, and ensure the avoidance of double counting”, he said.
