Google adds emissions data to travel searches

Google has introduced new tools with its search results to help users make greener choices when they travel, starting with rail comparisons with air, and soon extending to inter-urban coaches Richard Holden, VP of Travel Products, has announced.

New filters enable those who want to view only flights that have lower emissions compared to the average for similar trips, and alongside this identify where taking a train might be the more sustainable option without needing separate searches. They can also shop for train tickets directly on Google Search in select countries — with a new module in the search results that provides a direct link to complete bookings on the rail partner’s website — initially including Germany, Spain, Italy and Japan.
