Welsh 50mph limits continue to keep NO2 below legal threshold

Nitrogen dioxide pollution remained below the legal limit in 2021 where speed limits have been reduced to 50mph for this purpose in Wales. On the A483 in Wrexham, NO2 was lower than in 2020, despite increased traffic as the economy recovered after the most stringent Covid-19 restrictions.

The positive results may result in plans for towering pollution barriers – six or nine metres in height – to be put on hold or cancelled.
