Ban car adverts on trains, group tells Network Rail
Car adverts on trains should be banned as they undermine efforts to encourage modal shift from road to rail, says a coalition of civil society groups. The ‘Badavertising’ coalition – made up of climate charity Possible, thinktank New Weather Institute, and activist network Adfree Cities – has urged Network Rail chiefs to update advertising rules to exclude all ads for fossil fuelled travel.
New analysis by the coalition suggests that household car ownership is “explicitly linked” to lower levels of public transport use.
