Office of Place to get new role in supporting local authorities on design codes

Government amendments to The Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill announced by DCLG Secretary Michael Gove are designed to “Strengthen devolution within England as a key component of Levelling Up’ he said, including enhanced powers for “mayors to manage their key routes networks to increase transport connectivity” (see story).

The planning reforms in the Bill would give communities more control “over what housing is built, where it is built, and what new buildings look like,” as well as greater assurance that the infrastructure needed will be provided.
